We tee off at Durham City Golf Club 1887 this morning before making our way north to Craignure, Isle of Mull to meet Craignure Golf Club 1895. Still in the year 1895 we make our way south to Frinton- on- Sea, Essex to find Frinton Golf Club then on to Dorking, Surrey to visit Dorking Golf Club 1897 after which we drop in on Epsom Golf Club 1889 at Epsom Downs, Surrey. Finally, we make our way to Datchet, Berkshire to meet Datchet Golf Club 1890

Eastbourne Town FC, Eton Wick FC, Feckenham FC, Spilsby Town FC, Ilford FC and Cowes Sports FC

And they weren’t alone as teams such as Leyton Orient, Watford, Southport and Berwick Rangers were all founded in1881. So too was the original Aberdeen Football Club although they later merged with two other local teams in 1903 to form the Aberdeen Club we know today

Four great rugby clubs join our list this morning the first of which is Sale FC Rugby Club 1861 from Greater Manchester then we drop into London to meet Wimbledon RFC 1865 then, still in London, Wasps FC a year younger at 1866 and finally it’s back to Greater Manchester to meet Broughton RUFC 1869. We’re one month old today!

Now that may not be much to boast about given the ages of the groups on our list, but we’ve had a truly amazing start to our journey, so just for today we think a little bit of self-applauding is in order.

The number of visits to the site is almost double what we had anticipated and rather surprisingly we appear to have attracted attention from countries around the world. Readers from America and Canada are the most frequent, so they are clearly appreciating the amazing history so easily accessible to them through every group page. Well, there’s a lot more great history in the making so stay with us!
